Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to be introducing myself as the Acting Head Teacher of Northfield School for the academic year 2018/19. I have been fortunate enough to spend the last eleven years working at Northfield, firstly as Head of Physical Education and subsequently as Assistant Head and then Deputy and also as Acting Head teacher in 2016/17. I have already met with the vast majority of you at some point during your child’s education at Northfield and always welcome the opportunity to meet with any further parents or carers.

Working closely with parents and carers is very important to me as together we can improve the educational opportunities and outcomes for all of the children in our care – giving them the best possible choices for their future.

My priority as Acting Head Teacher is to ensure that we maximise the life chances of all our students. I believe that we have a responsibility to provide a rich and exciting curriculum so children can be enthusiastic about their learning. It is important to me to continue the improvements in high quality teaching and learning across the school.  We must ensure that every child who attends our school achieves the best they possibly can and that each and every child has the chance to exceed expectations and enjoy their educational journey.

Despite the very real challenges that Northfield School has faced during the last couple of years, there remain happy and enthusiastic children, hardworking and committed staff and a supportive community of parents and carers. I am working with the whole school team and the Local Authority to further improve the school and provide the best education possible for your children. For the first term of this academic year, we will continue to function on Northfield School site in temporary accommodation and along with some groups receiving their education at the Hill End Centre. Despite huge efforts throughout the summer, the main school building remains closed to students at this time whilst vital improvement works are carried out. Building works are schedule to be completed by the start of term two, enabling all students to return to the main building after October half term.

My staff and I fully appreciate the difficulties that a closed main building has caused students and we all extremely value your continued support and understanding in this matter. I personally have been overwhelmed with the unwavering support from all of the parents, carers and students of Northfield School during the past few months and it feels me with huge confidence for the next academic year and the direction that we can successfully move in.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes

Tristan Powell
